August 2007 Auto Sales Surprises

In August, 2007, we are in the midst of the sub-prime credit crunch economic downturn, and fewer consumers are making big-ticket purchases.

But General Motors posted a surprising 6.1% August year-over year sales upturn. Are rumors of the General's death exaggerated?

GM will stick to low projections for 3rd and 4th quarter 2007 output.

Toyota rang up a 2.8% US decline.

Honda did record Aug sales, led by lame duck 2007 Accord and CR-V.

Nissan sales were up 6.3%.

Chrysler posted sales 6% below August of last year. But the company's Dodge brand saw sales up 13%. Dodge Caliber and Dodge Nitro both did well.

Ford year over year Aug sales dropped 14%, ouch.
