Ford August 2007 Sales Fall

US Ford sales fell significantly in August, down 14% year over year. Ford sold 218,332 cars and light trucks last month, compared to 255,112 in the same month a year ago.

The sub-prime crisis has tightened credit standards, slowing vehicle sales at most vendors. Ford passenger vehicles were down 34%, to 64,864 for the month.

Barely ahead of Toyota, Ford can ill afford to loose market share in its financial crisis. The company reported a surprise profit last quarter, but this suggests more losses lie head for the blue oval.

At least there is some good news for Ford and loyal consumers: Ford's crossovers, Edge, and Lincoln MKX saw an 82% sales increase over August 2006.
