09/18/07 Auto Dealers Add Incentives to Reduce Inventories

The developing US recession, euphemistically known as the "subprime-mortgage dilemma" (try "the US dollar bubble"), has begun to hurt the auto industry.

Auto dealers must move 2007 models as new 2008 models arrive.

Detroit-3 have upped incentives to reduce oversupply.

Ford recently offered $500 cash-back on Lincoln MKX.

Chrysler minivans offer incentives as high as $4,500 on 2007s. Honda has begun offering 2.9% financing on Odyssey in the troubled minivan segment.

Chrysler's 2008 Jeep Commander has a $3K rebate right off the bat.

The buyers market in automobiles is just beginning, sales could fall to 14 million cars and trucks in 2008.
